This charming French butcher block features a chopping surface that is over 12 inches thick and was hand-carved from a single block of wood! The chopping board, which would have been used in a manoir kitchen during the 1700s, was carved in a circle with a drop-down molded noix. Tripod legs give the block stability, while elevating it to a height of over 30 inches. Included with the butcher block is an iron cleaver with a beige wooden handle, which is not original, but still of an advanced age. The butcher block has a wonderful deep, brown patination and while it could be used in the kitchen as a small prep station, most collectors will utilize it as a side table, planter stand, or a decorative accessory.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate losses, nicks, and undulations from repeated use. Minor age separations. Buildup, rubs, and fleabites to the cleaver, which are also commensurate with chopping.
