Description

Known in France as a table d’apparat (ceremonial or formal table), this occasional table has been hand-carved in the style of Louis XV. Tables d’apparat were not intended for everyday use, rather they were richly decorated small tables that functioned as pedestals for displaying exquisite accessories or art.

The luscious fruitwood used to construct the table has a honey-brown color, and a similarly hued, tanned leather, embossed with golden foliate motifs, stretches across the rectangular top with truncated corners. A thin molding surrounds the one-inch thick top, which significantly overhangs the apron on all four sides. On each of the narrower sides is a 6 ¼ inch wide belt drawer, accessible with a small circular knob. Long and slender cabriole legs support the table, connected on all four sides by a sinuous apron paired with thin molding embellished with barbs and volutes. Our Louis XV-style fruitwood table d’apparat is a sophisticated and elegant occasional table that would be a wonderful addition to a grand foyer, entry hall, living room, or library.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate stains to the leather top. Minor nicks and rubs to leather and wood. The wood has light age separations and old restoration fills to previous wood worm damage.
