Exquisite carvings in the style of the Italian Renaissance adorn this versatile library table. Hand-carved in the 1800s, the highly detailed legs and stretcher have a deep chocolate hue which pairs well with the slightly lighter top. The four-and-a-half-inch thick rectangular top is surrounded by two layers of distinct gadroon, both with deeply recessed lobes, while the corners of the upper molding feature subtle leaf carvings. Two well-carved trestle legs, paired with a shapely stretcher, offer substantial support to the 71-inch long table. The legs, which are elevated by a thin rectangular plinth with cavetto edges, consist of a pair of scrolled consoles embellished with volutes and attenuated leaves. In between is a curvaceous pilaster with a lion mascaron above a ball flower rosette. A similar floral element can be seen in the center of the stretcher, surrounded by several volutes and segmented leaves. Standing almost 30 inches tall, our Italian Renaissance-style table would make an attractive sofa table, writing desk, or library table.
