Description

At over nine feet wide (109 ¼ inches), this long oak hunting lodge buffet enfilade would make a wonderful addition to a dining room, living room, or game room. Hand-carved in France, circa 1890, the enfilade features thick and well-defined carvings that include four turned columns flanking each of the three compartments fronted by doors.

The center compartment, which is a double door, has carvings of an animal (a fox on the left door; a dog on the right) within an oval surrounded by moldings adorned with leaves and foliate spandrels. Both outer doors have hunting (the one on the left also has a fish in the grouping) trophies surrounded by rectangles with arched tops, once again depicting partial leaves. All three compartments have a single full-length shelf, lined with a flowery print of pink, green, and blue flowers on a cream background with brown latticework. Similarly, the two belt drawers, aligned over the double doors, have the same lining. The drawers are fronted by fox mascaron pulls flanked by foliate margents, with a rectangular leaf keyplate separating them. A quarter-round molding of infilled niches embellishes the angularly shaped top, with four protrusions above each turned column that is topped by rectangular-shaped leaves.

Our well-carved buffet enfilade can be used anywhere case storage is needed. Although the enfilade was most likely intended for a hunting lodge, it would still make a fantastic addition to a more traditional house, such as in a game, dining, or living room.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor age separations. Light nicks and rubs. Some water stains on the top. Commensurate wear to paper lining, such as losses and discoloration. One key works both side doors. At the time of photography, we are waiting for a second key to arrive from France.
