This unusual two-drawer walnut commode with iron pulls from France exudes charm. Hand-carved from walnut wood in the 1800s, the chest of drawers has a sinuous form. The arbalete front apron, which is adorned with a thin, recessed molding, coupled with the four short, shapely feet, enhances the curves of the façade and top. A thick quarter-round molding embellishes the overhanging top, which also has undulating edges. This form continues on the main body, with the sides having gentle curves.
Both of the thick drawers have a circular iron pull with a well-oxidized patina. Visible fills and dovetail joineries dot the wood, adding even more personality to the dark brown and chocolate-hued commode. Our French two-drawer commode would be a welcome addition to any bedroom, living room, or game room.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor age separations, with light nicks and losses. Traces of old restoration fills. Commensurate oxidation to iron pulls.
