Description

The rectilinear nature of this hexagonal lantern or porch light is softened by a series of scrolls and volutes, making a visual impression. Dating to circa the 1920s, the French lantern consists of wrought iron painted black and textured glass panes on the main body. Each of the six panes is fronted by an S-scroll over a quartered transom adorned with C-scrolls. Additional S-scrolls can be seen below each pane, flanked by the six scrolled brackets that terminate in a volute noix beneath the lantern. Inside the main body is a two-arm light source with a pair of thin disc bobeches, each topped by a white faux candle sleeve. Six twisted volutes encircle the main body, before extending upwards, forming a finial very similar to the noix. In between each whorl is a scrolled finial topped by a roundel, once again, adding some contour to the hexagonal main body. Capable of being used indoors or outside under a covered area, such as a veranda or patio, our wrought iron and glass lantern will make quite an impression.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Very light paint losses, resulting in some oxidation. Minor imperfections and fleabites to the iron. Professionally wired for use in American homes.
