18th Century French Cherrywood Table D’Apparat with Tooled Green Leather Top

Description

Hand-carved in cherrywood during the reign of Louis XV (mid-to late-1700s), this table d’apparat has a tooled green leather top. A table d’apparat was not designed for everyday use, rather it was a formal table most often used to display exquisite accessories. This particular table has a mostly rectangular top with small, truncated corners, surrounded by thin molding on all sides. The leather is embellished with a sophisticated foliate and floral three-tiered border that follows the shape of the top. In the center is a large whorled cartouche surrounded by a geometric rinceau. Four tall and slender cabriole legs support the top, encircling an undulating apron with a belt drawer on the front side. An elegant table from the period of Louis XV, our 18th-century cherrywood table d’apparet can be used as an occasional table for a foyer, entry, or living room.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor tears and scratches to the leather, with some faint discoloration in some areas. Commensurate age separations and nicks to the wood, with slight traces of old woodworm damage. Restoration work, both recent and from long ago, includes fills, replaced pieces of wood, and coloring of the leather. No key, but we can source a key/pull by request.
