Description

Embellished by a painted coat of arms placard, set above the single leg, this wrought iron console with marble top dates to circa 1880. The blason is a shaped, red shield with a golden mythical creature surmounting flames and topped by a closed crown, representing the chateau in Aisne, France, where the console resided.

A one-inch thick gold marble, with brown and gray veining, tops the detailed iron base. Beneath the demi-lune-shaped marble is an elaborate frieze adorned with Vitruvian scrolls, curled leaves, and fleur de lys. Beneath the painted coat of arms plaque is a wonderful, twisted rope leg. A large C-scroll with foliate tendrils graces the sides of the iron where the curved façade meets the wall, set high above the hexagonal foot beneath the single leg. Our single-leg console from Aisne can be placed in an entryway, hallway, or landing.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor scratches, very light staining, and buildup to the marble top. Light oxidation and rubs to the iron base.
