This ovate French brass jardiniere from the 1800s has thick lobes, accompanied by lion mascaron handles and four monopodial paw feet. The face of a lion on each of the sides interrupts the continuous gadroon of the main body. Both lion faces have a hoop emerging from the mouth, allowing the jardiniere to be carried with ease. Additional motifs have been hammered using both repousse and chasing methods of metalworking. These images include fluted edges of the rim above roundels, repeating foliage on the neck, and twisted rope above the lobed main body. CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor indentations, light oxidation, and losses to the interior, all commensurate with age and use. Old restoration to the feet.
