Inspired by the organic shapes in nature, this silver-plated bronze jardiniere with liner incorporates the sub-style of the Louis XV period, known as Rocaille. Rocaille artistry is denoted by vast movement, comprised of undulations and counter curves, which are seen in great detail along the sides of the concave oval jardiniere with gadroon embellishment. Notice the large, pierced handle at each end, which consists of looping and scrolled leaves. Also of note are the sides, which are adorned with an asymmetrical crest over a floral swag. Even the small feet that support the jardiniere are made up of extravagant foliate curls. The liner is removable to assist with cleaning, allowing the Louis XV-style jardiniere to be used functionally or as a decorative accessory or vide-poche on a side table or entry console.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition with fleabites and slight nicks. Light buildup to the removable liner, commensurate with age and use.
