This detailed winged cherub face is surrounded by stylized foliate wings. Hand carved in France, circa 1700, the oak wood has been bleached at some point, revealing beautiful wood grain.
Oak was the preferred wood for crafting furniture and carving up until the 1700’s. The wood is strong and sturdy, ensuring that pieces would endure. These qualities also make it difficult to carve, indicating that our cherub was created by someone with great skill. At slightly over 10 inches tall, this beautifully detailed, winged cherub carving can be placed on a wall or small table (small iron loop on back for easy hanging).
CONDITION: Good strong antique condition with minor losses, minor old worming, and age splits as seen in photos.
