Louis Philippe mirrors are always in high demand, as their clean lines and subtle embellishments mesh with almost any style of interior design. The understated elegance of this period Louis Philippe (circa 1840) mirror is magnified due to the exceptional size of the glass, which is over 70 inches tall and less than 20 inches wide.
Despite its unique height, the classic hallmarks of a Louis Philippe are present, including the rounded top corners. A ring of beading surrounds the glass, with a cavetto molding between the roundels and the quarter round center molding, which is embellished with widely spaced fluting. There is a second cavetto molding along the outer edge of the giltwood frame, adding additional grace to the elongated mirror. Based on the height of this tall and narrow Louis Philippe, it could be displayed as a floor mirror. For additional presence, position it above a console or side table.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor nicks and rubs to gilding. Some loss of silver to the glass (please see photos).
