This hand carved Spanish dining table is made from oak and has wrought iron stretchers. The table would have originally been stained a much darker color, but was recently bleached, which gives it a light color that can work well with a variety of interiors.
The lyre legged base was constructed in a mortise and tenon fashion, using pyramid-shaped dowels to keep the highly carved legs in place. The legs are supported by a curving double wrought iron stretcher with baluster-shaped embellishments. The scrolled ends of the iron are attached to the legs via a quatrefoil rosette washer. The top is attached to the base by square iron bolts, and interestingly, there are four iron handles on the underside of the table top that are attached near the four corners with screws.
This Spanish Oak table, with its “natural” wood appearance has table top edges that are slightly undulating and rounded, while the surface shows its tool marks, which also adds an interesting texture. The table can easily sit 4-6 people, and would be perfect as a breakfast table.
CONDITION: Good strong condition with minor nicks, traces of old finish in some places.
