Dating to the 1800s, this set of six armchairs were hand-carved from beech wood in the style of Louis XVI. The frames, which have caned backs, have been lacquered in gray, pairing beautifully with the plush seats that are upholstered with a tartan-like pattern of gray, cream, and brown paired with gray gimp. Spiral fluting surrounds the caning, which has a supple concavity that is offset by a bombe (protruding) curve to the seat. The rail beneath the seat is adorned with a leaf cartouche, with the foliate theme continuing on the connecting joints of the front two legs. All four legs are slender and fluted, wrapped in a leaf cup at the top and supported by long arrow feet under a protruding ring.
Our set of six Louis XVI-style beech and caned chairs can be paired with just about any style of interior design. The neutral tones allow the chairs to be paired with a variety of palettes and they would make excellent seating for a breakfast or dining table.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor nicks, rubs, and age separations, coupled with commensurate paint losses. Very light wear to upholstery, with slight lifting to some areas of gimp.
