Description

Hand-carved in Provence, France, from 14 pieces of limestone, this single pillar garden fountain features subtle curves, adding elegance to the linear rectangular basin.

A ball finial with a flattened bottom rests on top of a rectangular plinth with sloped sides. Beneath the plinth, a stone is carved in the style of an Egyptian cornice, mirroring the canted edges of the two pillar stones below. The upper stone has raised concentric circles that house an iron floret backplate and scrolled spout. The bottom stone is flanked by concave sloped supports with molding that sit on top of the back basin wall.

The basin is roughly 40 inches wide by 28 inches deep, although the third pillar stone (which is part of the back basin wall) juts out into the basin, shortening the depth to about 21 inches. Two iron bars extend from the top of this stone into cutouts on the top of two front basin stones. The rails are designed to hold a small potted plant or wooden bucket, making this single pillar Provencale fountain an intriguing item for any garden setting.

CONDITION: Wear consistent with age and use. Good condition with intentional distress marks, such as rubs and nicks. Minor oxidation to iron pieces. Please see photos.
