This elegant gold and silver carved architectural dates to the middle of the 19th century. It is composed of open worked and cascading C-and S-Scroll acanthus leaves. At the top there is a stylized shell beneath a foliate overhang. Beneath this are two C-Scrolls with a cluster of grapes at the top center. This particularly large Italian carving was likely an overdoor and of course can still be used as one. It would also make a great headboard or simply hung on a wall as sculptural art.
CONDITION: Good strong condition with old restorations, losses to gold and silver gilding, and small cracks.
