This scrolled limestone cartouche plaque has been hand-carved in bas relief by an Italian stone mason. A 14th century style heater shield has been emblazoned with a mythical creature with a serpentine tail. Above the escutcheon is an open crown with five points. Both elements are surrounded by a series of scrolls, all with different orientations, which requires a high level of stone carving skill. The plaque can be hung on an exterior or interior wall, making it an instant conversation piece.
CONDITION: Good strong condition with intentional distress to mimic antiquity. Stone is a natural material that can change colors with exposure to the elements. The gray stone has developed a much desired natural patina
