Description

Wrought iron is a very durable, yet malleable material that has been used for centuries to make highly worked items. This polished wrought iron French door knocker from the 1700’s has been shaped as an “L” form with a scrolled tip. A horizontal bolt with a large pierced backplate is used to attach the knocker to an exterior door. The bolt is hinged, allowing the knocker to be manipulated, which causes the protruding head to contact a circular strike plate. A large and unique antique door knocker like this can transform an entryway.  Another possible use for our polished wrought iron door knocker is to affix it to a wall in the kitchen or bathroom, making a unique towel holder.

CONDITION: Very strong antique condition. Fleabites and tiny slag inclusions as byproducts of the smelting process. Small age separation to the backplate and minor rubs to the strike plate, both commensurate with use.
