This pair of wide lobed stone urns on octagonal plinths are from Italy. Each urn was hand carved as two pieces (the upper body and the foot), with the plinth being a solid piece.
Our classic saucer-shaped tazza (Italian for “bowl”) urns have large quarter round molding beneath thick molded lips. Recessed channels are surmounted on lobed necks. The foot of each urn has cavetto molding, which is also seen on the base of the octagonal plinths.
The urns have a dark grey hue, which is offset by the lighter colored plinths, although both are made of limestone. Both sections have developed a nice patina from exposure to the elements. These lobed stone urns with octagonal plinths can be used outside in a garden or flanking a set of steps. They can also be placed indoors and used as a large planter.
CONDITION: Very good condition with some minor nicks to stone. Intentional distressed finish and natural patina from resting outside for the past few years. Please see photos.
