Pair of Vintage French Tole and Iron Orange Tree Planters

SOLD

Description

Based on 19th-century tree plant-holders often found in French orange groves, this pair of tole and iron planters are large enough to sustain large trees or bushes. They are slightly elevated as a result of the four monopodial paw feet affixed to a thick ring of rounded molding at the base. An equally thick molding can be seen around the opening (just above two subtle protruding rings), but it is more angular and overhangs the main body of the planter. The mixture of tole and iron has a brown and orange patination, giving the planters a more weathered appearance. Our pair of tole and iron orange tree planters can be used inside or outdoors.

CONDITION: Very good condition with light cavitations and rubs. A recent coat of French wax was added to the exterior. Some oxidation to the interior.
