Painted by Armand Dautrebande in the early 1900’s, this pair of antique French landscape paintings depicts two very peaceful scenes. The paintings are signed “A. Dautrebande” in the lower right corner and are surrounded by giltwood frames adorned with a repeating scrolled foliage motif.
Both canvases feature rolling hills lined with vegetation ranging from yellowish brown reeds to thick green shrubs. Tall trees dot the landscapes beneath blue skies and billowing clouds. In one of the paintings, a woman dressed in blue and brown with a white head covering walks along a grassy path. She is heading towards a small grove of trees with a small rock-filled stream to her left in the gulley below. The other scene shows no signs of activity besides a white house with a brown roof situated behind a pond. Puffs of smoke are emanating from the chimney, indicating that the inhabitants of the house are tending to a fire.
Armand Dautrebande was a French painter born in the late 1800’s. Dautrebande was active in the first part of the 1900s and is known for his depictions of landscapes, such as this pair of signed paintings.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with losses to giltwood frames as seen in photos. Slight creasing and minor dent to canvas. Neither painting has been rigged for hanging purposes.
