This is a wonderful pair of rare French blue and cream colored cabriolet chairs from the mid 1700s. The are completely carved and pegged wood with a crushed blue velvet upholstery and brass nailheads. Their frames are typical of design characteristics of the Louis XV period in France. Cabriolet is the designation given to these armchairs, with their slightly coved back and in-curved side rails. Their arms have sectioned pads for comfort. The legs are gentle S-Curves, all out-turned, with modified roquillard or acanthus feet. The floral ornamentation and moldings throughout is highlighted blue.
These beautiful period Louis XV cabriolet armchairs are graceful and easy to move and will accommodate any area needing elegant classic seating with a touch of color.
CONDITION: Some chipping, age separations, and nicks to frame, all commensurate with age of 1700’s (see photos). Restoration performed to one leg to increase stability
