This pair of Italian giltwood ornaments are fragments from an original late 1700s Neoclassical architectural. They have been mounted more recently on painted black stands with metal arms.
The gilding has retained much of its original luster, enhancing the quality of the carvings. A central cabochon is enveloped by a leaf-like element with numerous volute tendrils. The crest is composed of a curled tip adorned with a recessed carving filled with beading. An elaborate canopy emanates from the bottom, with numerous curled leaves featuring angular barbs. A beautiful pair of Italian giltwood fragments, these decorative accessories can be placed on a fireplace mantel, sofa table, or bookshelf.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with very light wear, including gilding losses and age separations. Based on small holes on the verso side, these are fragments from a much larger installation. The painted black stands and metal supports were added more recently. The fragments have been mounted at different heights, giving the appearance that one is taller.
