These sinuous armchairs with white on blue floral fabric are of Spanish origin and have carved oak frames. They are a quality mid-20th century production, with a large, comfortable size, measuring 53 inches high at the back and 31.5 inches at their widest point. This style of armchair became popular in Spain during the early 1700’s, when stylistic cues were influenced by other successful countries. Spanish furniture makers were highly influenced by what was coming out of England and France, which in turn was influenced by the Italian Baroque. The beautifully curved and scrolling arms and stretchers are a call to William and Mary of England or Italian Baroque. The seat backs and seat fronts have slightly curving forms which complement the frames, and the front feet are known as Spanish Scrolls.
Today, these very attractive Spanish armchairs are in good and strong condition, perfect for everyday use. The warm coloration of the wooden frames, bright blue and white fabric, and elegant form, lend themselves to being used in a variety of interiors.
CONDITION: Very good condition with minor rubs and very few old worm holes.
