Pair of Carved Limestone Pineapple Finials on Pedestals

SKU: 1220-14 Category:

$6,980.00

Description

Hand-carved in Italy, this pair of limestone pineapple finials sits on 15 ¼ inch bulbous pedestals. Each pineapple has been carved from one piece of stone, which is a separate stone from the pedestals.

The amount of detail put into each carving is amazing. A pineapple is a “multiple fruit”, where a cluster of berries have fused together. Notice how the Italian carver shows each berry as a singular diamond-shaped unit with texture. The crown has also been depicted well, as you can make out each of the leaves. The foot of the finial has a quarter round edge and deep molding.

Both pedestals have been carved with the same elements. On one side of the thickest part of the body, there is a geometric escutcheon that features a linear diapered background. Beneath the shield is a cartouche that consists of a pair of scrolls flanking the top of a stylized foliate shell. The pedestal then curves inward, with deep molding that is like the foot of the above finial. A four-inch-thick circular base provides stability for the pedestal, while mirroring the overall shape of the finial and pedestal.

Our pair of hand-carved limestone pineapple finials on pedestals would make excellent additions to any outdoor setting. They can be placed flanking an entryway or displayed as decorative elements around a pool or fountain.

CONDITION: Wear commensurate to age and use with minor nicks. Stone is a natural material than can change color due to exposure to the elements. Traces of a light green patina starting to develop, especially on the pedestals. Please see photos for details.
