This pair of French bronze dore candlesticks are from the 19th century and are in the style of Rocaille Louis XV.
Standing at over 10 inches tall, these French candle holders are sometimes called flambeaux. Originally, a flambeau referred to a flaming torch. In the 18th century, the word came to define decorated candlesticks.
Our candlesticks are made from gilt bronze and are perfect for decorating your fireplace or any table surface in your home. The edge of the bobeche has been decorated with C-scrolls and sinuous embellishments, while the capital is adorned with foliage, C-scrolls and winding elements similar to the bobeche. The column is triangular shaped and decorated with shells, egg and dart pattern and fluting. The base has a roughly circular shape with three concave indentations that align with the corners of the triangular column. Curled cartouches, floral renderings and beading are the main motifs found on the base.
These French bronze candlesticks, with their rich decoration and gilding are particularly elegant, and they are easy to place in the home. They can also be re-purposed into small lamps.
CONDITION: Very good condition with minor surface build up.
