Cast in France, circa 1950, this classic pair of swan planters are nearly two feet high and would look great with colorful flowers placed upon stone entry pillars. The large swans are white, comprised of reconstituted stone, which is pulverized organic stone mixed with cement. The mixture is then poured into a mold and sometimes integrated with a coloring agent, in this case, a very true-to-life white, although exposure to the elements has given the planters a gold and black patina in some areas. Both swans have been depicted as gracefully as the birds they represent, with their face tucked into highly curved necks. For an added sense of realism, the details of the barbs of the feathers are present. The beautiful pair of French swan planters can accommodate a wide variety of plants or flowers, with a plantable volume of: 11” H x 10 ½” W x 14” D. The planters can be used inside or outdoors (there is a drainage hole in the bottom of each swan). They can also be used as decorative sculptures flanking a door or walkway.
Each swan weighs roughly 65 lbs.
CONDITION: Very strong condition with minor nicks and light losses. Minor rubs and buildup, specifically to the interior, commensurate with being used as a planter. Some cavitations from the casting process.
