These cast French vases with matching pedestals have some exquisite Gothic motifs. Both octagonal vases have several layers of molding along the 17 inch opening. The main body is adorned with finely detailed foliate tracery set between two half round moldings, with the bottom one being particularly robust. There are several protruding rings along the neck above a cavetto molded foot on top of a square plinth.
The rectangular pedestals have been cast in the same manner, with three distinct Gothic traceries. There are two examples of identical barbed trefoils on opposing sides, while the other two sides have either a barbed quatrefoil or a spiral rosette. Both the entablature and the plinth are thickly molded, providing stable bases for the pedestals and the vases that sit on top.
Originally cast with a cream color, both the vases and the pedestals have developed a beautiful speckled black, green, and gray patina from exposure to the elements. Both vessels have drain holes, allowing our finely cast French Gothic vases on matching pedestals to be used as outdoor planters. They would also make fantastic garden ornaments or decorative accessories for an interior courtyard.
CONDITION: Strong condition with minor rubs and fleabites from the casting process. The stone has developed a speckled black patina, with traces of green and gray moss/lichen accumulation.
