This is a pair of 18th century doors from Northern Italy, with large X-motif carvings and diamond shaped nailheads. They are carved out of an Italian Rovere wood, also known as Durmast Oak. The wood has a wonderful texture which has developed a warm patina over the years, and each door has three inset panels with molded and grooved X-motifs. There are a total of 16 large, diamond shaped nailheads which secure the hand-hammered iron hinge straps to the back of the doors. This allows them to be slid onto a traditional pintle hinge system.
These antique Italian doors from Piedmont Italy have a simple, understated elegance, and the wood has developed a perfect patina and texture over the years. They are ready to be hung as interior doors, built-in cabinet doors, or installed as pocket doors.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with losses and nicks throughout. Small replaced area of wood on upper corner of one door, and some old worming.
