This handsome pair of limestone vases on pedestals are originally from Italy, produced circa 1960’s. Hand-carved in the traditional Campana shape, the main body features fluted sides beneath a molded rim adorned with widely spaced cabochons. The lower section of each body is embellished with thick gadrooning above a circular scalloped shell foot that rests on a square base. A metal rod extends upwards from the foot, slotting into a hole in the gadrooned area, adding stability. A unique concave pedestal with quarter round and cavetto molding sits on top of a thick square plinth that provides support to the two pieces above.
Our pair of carved Italian limestone vases on pedestals would make great additions to any garden setting. They can also be placed on either side of a walkway or set of steps. The classic vases have developed a highly sought-after dotted patina from years of exposure to the elements.
CONDITION: Good condition, wear commensurate to age and use with minor nicks and acceptable losses. One vase has an old repair to the neck, which is not easily visible. Old professional repair to one base as well. Light buildup with traces of moss and lichen. Stone is a natural material that can become darker or lighter from the elements. See photos.
