Small marble basins like these were probably originally used for holding holy water in Catholic Churches. They are in the shape of stylized shells with gadrooned lobes. You can see where the backs are rough cut, as if removed from the wall. Today they can be used in a variety of ways. They can be installed as decorative soap dishes or simply resting on a console for holding keys or miscellaneous smaller items (Vide-Poche).
CONDITION: Chip to marble upper edge of one and minor chip to edge on the other.
