This lovely pair of wooden hunting plaques were hand carved and painted in France near the turn of the last century. These plaques, known as ‘animal mort’ feature motifs of a hand carved wooden rabbit and a grouse, suspended upside down by crinkled ribbons. Surrounding each animal is a complex assortment of scrolling twigs, branches, and oak leaves, everything set in shaped frames with multiple moldings.
The original ochre paint on the the oak wood has been naturally distressed over the years, giving the plaques a wonderful look. These hunt panels are ready to be hung on any wall, such as a game room, study, or den.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor losses and wear to paint as seen in photos.
