This pair of Italian commodes has been painted antique white with repeating light blue foliate motifs. Both the paint and the wood were carefully rubbed (by a skilled ebeniste from Florence, Italy), giving the chests a beautiful, lightly distressed finish.
Three full-length drawers are supported by four long, tapering block feet. A small ogee bracket is attached to each leg beneath the thin, linear molding. Both sides have recessed panels that have been painted with a continuation of the foliate display embellishing the front. The face of each drawer has a pair of bronze floret and husked ring pulls, flanking an oval keyplate.
Our pair of blue and white painted Italian commodes would make ideal storage pieces for a bedroom or living room. The chest of drawers could be placed in the same room or used in separate rooms.
CONDITION: Good condition. Well done intentional distress marks (rubs and paint losses) to mimic antiquity. Minor surface buildup. No keys. Please see photos for details.
