These wooden plaques have been beautifully hand carved and date to the 1700s. The surrounds and backings are in French oak, while the carved inner portions are done in linden wood. They feature winged angels over a scrolling cartouche, which encloses the sacred heart. The hearts with flames above, symbolize the passionate love of Christ, while the cherubs above the escutcheons represent an attendee to God. The plaques were originally joined to a larger panel or decoration, likely within a private chapel. We have given the plaques a light coat of French wax, which accentuates the expert carving and fine details.
CONDITION: Good antique condition commensurate with age: some minor separations, scratches, abrasions, and traces of old woodworm as seen in photos.
