Pair of Antique French Walnut Wood Interior Doors, Circa 1850

$3,800.00

Description

A beautiful pair of interior doors from France, circa 1850, the walnut wood was hand-carved with geometric panels and assembled via round dowel construction. There are a total of four rectangular panels on each door: the top and bottom sections are small and horizontal, while the larger middle two are orientated vertically. Décor is at a minimum, with each panel having several layers of thin molding and clean lines. The lack of hand-carved motifs allows a series of iron lozenge nailheads to gain prominence. Both doors have two rows (five in each row) of diamond nailheads hammered through the wood. The nails also serve a functional purpose, attaching a pair of iron straps with pintle hinge collars along the backside, allowing the doors to be used architecturally as interior doors. Our French walnut doors could also be installed using a track system, allowing the doors to slide apart.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor age separations and nicks. Traces of old wood worm and acceptable losses commensurate with age and use. Some old fills and repairs, specifically to the bottom rail of each door.
