The reign of Louis XV produced furniture and accessories that were full of life and movement, as seen on this pair of gilt bronze sconces. Crafted in France, circa 1890, these Louis XV-style light sources feature an abundance of asymmetrical, yet elegant curves inspired by nature. Each Rococo-form sconce has a central cabochon surmounting an attenuated leaf. Sinuous leaves flow above and below the medallion, with S-scroll shapes. Two highly undulating arms with foliate forms, emanate from the upper S-scroll, terminating in sprawling leaf bobeches. Each bobeche is topped by a bulbous capital adorned with fluting and foliate vines. Our French gilt bronze Louis XV-style sconces would make fantastic decorative wall elements in any room of the house. They could also be wired for use as a light source in a small area such as a bathroom, hallway, or landing.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with fleabites, minor rubs, and some faded elements. Small eyelets on the back for hanging purposes. Small holes indicate that the sconces are prepared for illumination, but an electrician would need to wire them.
