A one-of-a-kind set of signed German paintings, these vertically oriented landscapes are elegantly ensconced within identical large foliate giltwood frames. The first offering transports viewers to a tranquil countryside scene. In this pastoral setting, a shepherd gently guides two cows and a flock of sheep along a winding country road. The mid-autumn ambiance is palpable, with the trees on their left baring their branches or sporting turned leaves, evoking a sense of seasonal transition. To the left, a babbling stream meanders peacefully, while birds soar gracefully overhead, painting a vivid tableau against the darkening sky and setting sun. This painting captures the essence of rustic charm and the fleeting beauty of nature’s cycles.
The second painting unveils a striking nocturnal scene that transports viewers into the realm of moonlit enchantment. Two solitary figures stand on opposite banks of a stream, bathed in the silvery glow of a low-hanging moon. Between them, a quaint brown house stands as a silent witness to their nocturnal activities. A small fire burns inside. The gray sky above, awash with muted hues, sets a contemplative mood, while the moon’s ethereal reflection dances serenely upon the water’s surface. Together, these two exquisite artworks constitute a captivating juxtaposition of pastoral and nocturnal aesthetics, offering collectors a rare opportunity to own a harmonious blend of contrasting yet complementary masterpieces. Under signature of moonlit painting is München.
CONDITION: Very good condition with light craquelure to the canvases. Signatures on paintings appear slightly different, so hard to confirm same artist. They show striking similarities and style and scale, so would be hard to imagine different artists. Minor losses and slight age separations to giltwood. Please see photos for details.
