Pair of 19th Century Carved Stone Jardiniere Planters from Dijon, France

$3,800.00

Description

This pair of stone jardiniere planters from Dijon, France, have beautifully thick quarter round edges above the cavetto sides. Because the stones were hand-carved (in the 1800’s), the dimensions of each planter differ somewhat. The overall size of the stones are comparable, but the size of the basins have considerable variations.

Originally cream-colored, exposure to the elements have given the “pierre dur de Dijon” stones a light gray pigment. Traces of moss and lichen, coupled with a mottled black, yellow, green, and brown patina give added color. Both planters have existing, small drainage holes (one has two holes), but larger holes would need to drilled if the planters were to be installed as small farmhouse sinks.  These antique French stone planters have a wonderful unique design and would look stunning in a variety of applications either indoors or out.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with wear commensurate to age and exposure to the elements, including light age separations and a small loss to the edge of the smaller planter. The planters were hand-carved, so the dimensions have some variations. Fantastic, mottled patina to both planters, with traces of moss and lichen (significantly more to the larger one).
