Made from reconstituted stone, this lovely pair of garden lions measure over 30 inches in length. Produced in England around the 1930’s, the pair has been cast as mirror images of each other. Both lions are depicted in a couchant (lying down) manner with one forepaw tucked under the body and an affronte head (facing towards the viewer). The lions rest on rectangular plinths that have been textured to mimic uneven terrain. A highly desirable black, white, and light gray mottled patina have developed over the decades. Our pair of cast stone garden lions can be placed on either side of a walkway or set of steps, welcoming arriving guests. They could also be placed indoors, flanking a room entry or in a Jardin d’hiver.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor nicks and rubs. Light buildup, with traces of moss accumulation. The lions have developed a highly sought-after patina.
