Description

During the early stages of the Baroque period, Spanish influence began to be seen in hand-carved furniture. One such inspiration was the use of fretted lyre legs on half-round/octagonal tables, as seen in our pair of Italian consoles. These beautiful tables were hand-carved from walnut wood in the late 1600’s by an Italian craftsman.

One and a half inch thick half tops form an octagonal center table when pushed together (see main photo). The angular edges of the top are offset by sinuously carved open lyre legs and similarly carved stretchers below. The legs are adorned with scrolls and rounded protrusions, giving added flair to the tables. Each leg sits on a pair of out-turned scrolled feet.

Our 17th century walnut wood tables are highly versatile. You can use the tables individually in a hallway, or along the same wall flanking a fireplace. Or simply push them together to form a center table or entry piece.  We have applied a light French wax to add depth and brilliance to the already warm walnut wood patina.

CONDITION: Good overall antique condition with light age separations, small losses and nicks with traces of old wood worm. Please see photos for details.
