Hand-carved in Italy, circa 1870, this exquisite giltwood foliate shell ornament has been mounted to a painted black stand more recently. A stylized (foliate) shell medallion, embellished with imbricated discs, is encased within a pierced oval border composed of two graceful volute C-scrolls. At the pinnacle, a grand floral and foliate crown takes center stage, while a regal fleur de lys flower graces the base. This ornate creation is elegantly showcased on a painted black stand with a slender metal column, making it a striking addition to side or sofa tables, consoles, or chests of drawers. Furthermore, its versatility allows it to be easily removed from its stand and hung as a captivating decorative wall sculpture.
CONDITION: Very good condition with minor age separations and some touch-ups to the gilding. Was originally part of a larger structure, but it is currently mounted to a stand that was added more recently.
