Standing at over eight feet tall (99.5 inches!), this monumental stone and iron armillary sundial was hand-carved in Italy. The four-ring armillary sphere has a central arrow gnomon that measures roughly five feet long (the sphere itself has a diameter of 39 inches, although it rises 42 inches thanks to the half-round base).

Two rectangular pieces of stone comprise a 3 ½ thick square plinth (43 ¼ x 43 ¼) that elevates the highly detailed column. The shaped entablature has canted edges and numerous layers of molding, providing an aesthetically pleasing base for the iron armillary. Beneath is a wonderful composite capital with stylized dolphin volutes and a square base with a large cyma molding adorned with foliate corners. Below the capital is a hammered (textured) rectangle with a large rosette on each side. The robust column is finished with a thick plinth beneath several layers of molding and protruding cornices. Our carved stone and iron armillary sundial can be used as a wonderful decoration piece in any garden or courtyard setting.

CONDITION: Very good condition with minor rubs to stone. Stone is a natural material that can change color with exposure to the elements. Please contact us for photos of the current patina. Not intended to be an accurate measure of time of day.
