Cast from reconstituted stone in the 1950’s in France, the main body of this jardiniere is adorned with a medieval battle scene. Two opposing armies gather, as a pair of jousting soldiers on horseback ride towards each other. All soldiers, including the two jousters, have significant armor and weaponry, including helmets, spears, and large heater shields. The shields of the army on the left have a party per bend sinister charge, while the opposing soldiers have a cross charge. Only the frontage has been cast with decorative embellishments; the other three sides were left unadorned. The jardiniere rest on two couchant lion supports, but it could be placed directly on the ground if desired. There is a drainage hole at the base of the interior, allowing for our Medieval style reconstituted stone jardiniere to function as an outdoor planter box.
CONDITION: Good condition with minor rubs and losses. Wear commensurate to age and use with buildup to interior. Traces of lichen with a black mottled patina. One of the lion supports has been professionally repaired.
