This long wood jardiniere with impressive foliate carved scrolls is of an indeterminate origin and age. The wood has been stripped, leaving traces of gesso and old paint. The hand-carved arms have been shaped into volute scrolls with a foliate diaper background. There are minute volutes throughout the leaves that complement the wide arms. Similar carvings can also be seen on the scrolled bracket feet. The tops of each arm have two-tiered diamonds with foliate central elements.
A highly shaped base is adorned with a triangular central cartouche with lozenge diaper and is surrounded by curled foliage. A similar cartouche can be found on the main body, but with a larger triangle and more pronounced foliage. The body and the base are separated by an angular molding with a bevel to the top and bottom.
The jardiniere has been embellished with a lovely arrangement of dried flowers and fruits.
CONDITION: Wear commensurate to age and use with minor losses, rubs, and age separations. The jardiniere was stripped at one point, leaving traces of gesso and the original finish. The dried flower arrangement is included.
