Description

Known for understated elegance by means of subtle embellishments, Louis Philippe mirrors are always in high demand, as the clean lines mesh with almost any style of design. Our tall gold leaf mirror from France is no exception, despite a commanding presence of over five and a half feet. The mirror, which was hand-carved in the mid- to late-1800’s has not been rigged for hanging, indicating that it was originally utilized as a floor mirror.

True to the style of most Louis Philippe mirrors, the frame features rounded top corners and minimal carved motifs. An inner ring of beading can be seen inside of a cavetto cornice. The outer edge has a quarter round molding adorned with repeating chevrons over a foliate margent. Sections of the gold leaf have flaked, revealing red bole, which not only indicates age, but has also become a highly sought after look. Ideally suited as a floor length mirror for a bedroom or boudoir, our tall gold leaf Louis Philippe mirror could be rigged for hanging on a hallway or foyer wall.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor age separations to gold leaf frame and slight loss of silvering to mirror. Light rubs to frame, revealing traces of the red bole. Not rigged for hanging on a wall, although the mirror is tall enough to be used as a floor mirror.
