From Italy, this absolutely stunning alabaster bust of Menelaus, King of Sparta, and husband of Helen, has expertly dry cast out of alabaster. It sits on a short black stone pedestal base. The abduction of Menelaus’ wife, Helen, led to the Trojan War. During the war he served under his elder brother, Agamemnon, who was the commander in chief of the Greek Forces.
Menelaus expression given by the sculptor shows a furrowed brow on his forehead with an appearance of overall exhaustion. The aged condition of the surface adds to the impression of antiquity. The bust is highly detailed with interesting motifs, animals, and demi-figures.
It will definitely be the focal point of any area it is placed.
CONDITION: Good strong condition with finish to mimic antiquity. Surface build up with small nicks, scratches and cracks as seen in photos.
