Louis Philippe mirrors are versatile mirrors that can be incorporated into any interior design style. They are easily recognized by their subtle carvings, understated elegance and round corners at the top. Our French giltwood mirror with floral motifs from the late 1800’s definitely adheres to the Louis Philippe style. As is usually the case with a larger Louis Philippe, this mirror has a festooned quarter round molding between two cavetto borders. In this case, the embellishment is a floral margent that wraps around the entire mirror. A row of beading also runs alongside the edge of the glass. The gilding has some minor rubs and losses that has revealed traces of the red bole, which is a highly sought after look, as it is a good indicator of age. Our large Louis Philippe style mirror would make a beautiful mantel mirror. It would also make an attractive wall mirror, but rigging would need to be added to the back.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition with minor wear and rubs and very slight loss of silvering. Traces of red bole present as a result of rubs and loss of gilding. The mirror is not rigged for hanging.
