Hand-carved in Italy, this large carved and white painted wooden swan planter is every bit as graceful as the actual bird it depicts. Based on the curved neck and downward pointing bill, this is most likely a mute swan, which is native to much of Europe, including North Italy. The wings are displayed addorsed, meaning they are raised and spread behind the back, as if about to engage in flight. Beneath the bird is an oval plinth with cavetto molding. The interior opening can house a 7 1/4″ pot, although the hand-carved aperture has some areas that measure close to eight inches. Both functional and decorative, our large, carved wooden swan has been lightly distressed for an attractive antique white painted finish. For planting, it is best suited for use with indoor plants. Of course, it can also be used as a standalone decorative sculpture anywhere in the home.
CONDITION: Good condition with wear commensurate to age and use, including minor age separations, buildup, and discoloration. Because the planter was hand-carved, the interior opening is not a uniform circle. Please see photos and dimensions for details.
