This is large solid bronze antique oval jardinière is from Italy. It has linear beading, floral ornamentation at the neck, large gadrooned lobes, and lion’s paw feet. There are lions’ heads on either side having rings in their mouths for the handles. Most antique planters of this general shape are made from brass repousse. It is uncommon to find a solid bronze planter of this size. It is great for displaying flowers on a table, but is large enough that it could stand on the floor. The jardiniere has a rich, old verdigris patination.
