A beautiful example of an Italian architectural from circa 1750, this hand-carved wooden wall niche has polychromed elements coupled with giltwood accents. The background of the niche has been painted black and carved with ripples to imitate the fabric folds of the curtain swag that hangs from the gilded crown. Beneath the parted drapery is a partial sunburst with six golden rays, emanating from a black stylized cloud center. The curtain has gold, green, and brown floral margents painted on the fabric with golden tassel trim. At the top of the niche is an ornately crenelated crown that serves as the origination of the drapery. A thick molding adorned with imbrication arches up above tasseled lobes textured with small roundels. The base of the niche is also gilded and comprised of two cornucopias overflowing with floral bouquets. Our Italian giltwood and polychromed wall niche would make a stunning addition to the wall of any room.
